TABLETS

Tablets are the most common form of pill – they offer an inexpensive yet highly effective way to deliver medication orally. Tablets are made by compressing one or more powdered ingredients together to create a solid, smooth-coated pill that breaks down within the digestive tract.

CAPSULES

Capsules are a type of medication enclosed in an outer shell. The shell breaks down in the intestines, where the medication is then absorbed into the bloodstream and metabolized (in the same way as a tablet).

INJECTIONS

An injection is a way of administering a liquid to a person using a needle and syringe. It’s also sometimes also called a ‘shot’ or ‘jab’. Injections are used to give a wide variety of different medications, such as insulin, vaccines and Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA), but not all injections are the same.

POWDER FOR INJECTIONS

Powders for injection (PIs) are a popular parenteral dosage form for drugs that cannot be marketed as ready-to-use injectables because of their instability in an aqueous environment. PIs are relatively simple with respect to formulation and process development.

SVP INJECTIONS

Applications for Small Volume Parenterals include local anesthetics, vaccines, and other traditional injectable products. The 10 to 100 mL range is typically designed for multi-dose applications. Applications for Small Volume Parenterals include local anesthetics, vaccines, and other traditional injectable products.

LVP INJECTIONS

Large volume parenterals (LVPs or large volume injections) are aqueous solutions usually supplied in volumes of 100 ml to 5 000 ml. LVPs are typically used to provide fluid replacement therapy. Routes of administration may include intravenous, intraperitoneal, or subcutaneous.

SUSPENSIONS

A pharmaceutical suspension may be defined as a coarse dispersion containing finely divided insoluble material suspended in a liquid medium. The physical chemist defines the word “suspension” as two-phase system consisting of an undissloved or immiscible material dispersed in a vehicle (solid, liquid, or gas).

ORAL SUSPENSIONS

Pharmaceutical suspensions are liquid dosage forms containing finely divided insoluble materials (the suspensoid) distributed somewhat uniformly throughout the suspending medium (suspending vehicle) in which the drug exhibits a minimum degree of solubility. This dosage form is used for providing a liquid dosage form for insoluble or poorly soluble drugs. Also, it is an ideal dosage form for drugs that are unstable in an aqueous medium for extended periods of time.

POWDER FOR SUSPENSIONS

Powders for oral suspension are preparations consisting of solid, loose, dry particles of varying degrees of fine particle size. They are developed as powder mixtures of typical ingredients required for an aqueous suspension.

SYRUPS

Syrups are a concentrated solution of a sugar mixed in water or other other aqueous liquid. In medical terminology, medicinal syrups or syrupus are nearly saturated solutions of sugar in water in which medicinal substances or drugs are dissolved. Basically, it is an oral suspension in liquid form.

SPRAYS

Pharmaceutical sprays are medicines that are administered orally or nasally through respiration. In sprays, a liquid or solid formulation is converted into a dynamic mixture dispersed in gas through atomization. An atomized spray, shown below, is able to travel into the respiratory system for local or systemic medicinal effects.

DROPS

Drops are any liquid medication administered using a dropper. Apply drops directly into the eye using a dropper. Hold the dropper above the eye, and squeeze out one of the drops. Drops are any liquid medication administered using a dropper.

TOPICALS

Topical medications are medications applied onto the body to treat various ailments. Most commonly, a topical drug delivery system is applied to the skin, where the medicine either treats only the area of application or is absorbed into the bloodstream through the dermis.

CREAMS

Creams are semisolid dosage forms containing more than 20% water or volatile components and typically less than 50% hydrocarbons, waxes, or polyols as vehicles. They may also contain one or more drug substances dissolved or dispersed in a suitable cream base.

EYE OINTMENTS

Eye ointments are medicines in an ointment form. They are used when the medicine needs to work directly in your eye to relieve or treat eye conditions.

GELS

Gels In Pharmaceuticals are Homogeneous, Semisolid preparations usually consisting of solutions or dispersion of one or more medicaments in suitable hydrophobic and hydrophilic bases. Suitable gelling agents are used for the preparation of gels. Antioxidants, Preservatives, and Stabilizers may be added to the gels.

OINTMENTS

Ointments are preparations for external use, intended for application to the skin. Typically, they have an oily or greasy consistency and can appear “stiff” as they are applied to the skin. Ointments contain drug that may act on the skin or be absorbed through the skin for systemic action.
